Aryssa Washington — Clinical Director

Dr. Aryssa Washington, PsyD, is the new Clinical Director of Brewer-Porch Children’s Center and an Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Health for the College of Community Health Sciences. Dr. Washington is responsible for the clinical service programs provided to youth at the Brewer-Porch Children’s Center. Dr. Washington received a bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Northern Colorado University, a master’s degree in Forensic Psychology from Roger Williams University, and a doctorate of Clinical Psychology from Regent University. She spent her post-graduate years as a psychologist for male and female juveniles residing in a secure-care facility in Wisconsin. For the last two years, she was the psychologist supervising the clinical psychology department at the same facility. Over the years she has garnered experiences in treatment with youth with significant behavioral problems, personality disorder features, and females with serious mental illnesses and suicidal or non-suicidal self-injurious behaviors. She has training in Eye-Movement Desensitization Therapy—Somatic and Attachment approach (EMDR-SAFE), Ending the Game treatment for sexually exploited individuals, Dialectical-Behavior Therapy, Systemic-trauma informed care (DBT), Program development and implementation, and in the impact of Attachment and Trauma on the brain and Identity Development with youth. Dr. Washington continues to present and train on Cultural Humility for various age groups and clinical and non-clinical populations. She has several publications related to juvenile justice and continues to facilitate research with systems that interface with youth long-term and identity development.
